RE: Dry, itchy skin on my lab

How often you give her a bath and what shampoo you use to bathe her? We use Selsun Blue and Head & Shoulders for our lab no sooner than every 3 weeks. No more dry skin problem.

RE: Alert! Dangerous dog toy! UPDATE!!

If you had one, and your dog liked it, looks like you could just, er, drill another hole in it somewhere to avoid creating the possibility of a vacuum situation. Which of course is what the company should do.
You are right on the money! I took a good look at the green ball before I chuck it in the trash last night. There is a small hole directly across the larger one. This larger one is likely where the bell is inserted. This green ball could have been made by some other manufacturer but the bell hole should be similar. It is hard to believe a full grown lab could stuck its tongue in a 3/8" diam hole. You just can't be too careful!

RE: Alert! Dangerous dog toy! UPDATE!!

Thank you for sharing the info. We have one of those balls except it's in green color. I couldn't remember who makes it and our dog has outgrew it since. It is still hanging around in his toy box. We are fortunate that nothing has happened to my boy. It will be in the trash tonight.

RE: How MUCH pumpkin?

I am an expert in this area since my dog has a sensitive stomach. 2 tablespoonfuls of puree pumpkin (not pie filling), mixing with food 2x a day is about right. But I'd cut out his kibbles and substitute with canned gastronomic formula (from the vet) or boiled chicken & rice.

TT Accident

TT Accident
My hearts goes out to the family!
I watched this news on CTV and it was thought the accident was caused by a gust of cross-wind. I hope the authority would investigate this and we all learn something. Have a safe camping season!

RE: Anyone Use The Gentle Leader?

I use a Halti head harness which I believe is similar to Gentle Leader in principle. They can be wiggled out if your dog determines to. It is important to engage a safety link between the slip ring & the collar so that your dog remains on leash when he slips out.

RE: Lost our Toby May 30, 2008 (Long)

I'm sorry for your loss! Toby may not live a long life, I'm most certain it's a very good one. You wrote such a beautiful tribute and brought tear to my eyes. I found it hard to read through this. Take care!

RE: max weight in campground

I can't believe they will weight your dog. It's most likely some insurance restriction with the thinking of small ankle biter would cause less damage than big dogs. I wouldn't worry about the extra 3#. BTW, do you have any idea how hard is to shed a few lb off them? I have been trying the last month only to loss 1/2 lb off my overweight boy. Our vet saw him last weekend and ordered 2 lb less by the end of June at his annual checking-up. Tall order for a lab.

RE: 4 month old Springer pulls during walks

Local feed supply place had a "Halti", which looks like a gentle Leader. Dog hates it (for now), but he walks like a different dog! Thanks everyone.
Our dog walks with a Halti since he's 10 m.o. and he is now 2 1/2 y.o. and still hates it. We started using it when he's much younger but found it too easy for him to slip out. He still can slip out from it if he really wants to but I have this safety link attached to his harness for good measure.
The only draw back with Halti is some people has mistaken it as muzzle and keep their dog away from us. My boy wouldn't be happy unless he greets every being he met on his walk.

RE: biodegradable poop bags!!

Our city hands out biodegradable poop bags in parks. Some irresponsible owner would use them and fling them into bushes in the neighbourhood. You can see them hanging onto the branches thru the winter seasons and remain intact. But I heard reports that if you leave these bags in your coat pocket and forgotten, they will degrade and make a mess.
I would think the smell would get to you long before they had a chance to degrade.:o Can you imagine opening that closet door!!:E
I don't think anybody would keep loaded ones in the coat pocket.:E
Melted plastic is messy enough.

No need for GPS

Their homing capability always amaze me. When I was growing up, my neighbour's dog, who moved quite a few miles away, kept coming back to visit our dog. His owner got tired of picking him up and we actually fostered the dog for a while when he's not needed for hunting duty. We initially thought he's attracted by our girl dog but they just hung out together, nothing romantic as we could tell. Friendship, perhaps?

RE: A Useless Lazy Dog: Irish Humor

Mine is from the same school. When I get home, he'd watch me lying down from the top of the stair landing with his head hanging down. And when I reach the top and try to step over him he'd wag his tail a couple of times, hitting the floor, so as to tell you: good job not tripping over. If he's in the mood, he'll roll over and ask for a belly rub.

RE: Dog chewing, biting skin, remedies?

Get him to a vet and get proper flea control pills or whatever. Those whatever sold in supermarket doesn't work. IMHO, bathing every week is too much for a dog. It could be the cause of the itchness.

RE: Medication to keep dog from licking a wound?

Last year when my dog's belly was completely taken over by mosquito bites in the woods, I put tea tree oil on there. It smelt so bad that he wouldn't stick his nose near it. May worth a try.

This strikes a chord in me. Last year, I drove 3 1/2 hrs each way to fight a $369 ticket. They dropped the case as soon as I showed up in court. It's one of those ridiculous ticket written on the basis of some CB radio communication. The cop was 20 min away from the scene. And I've been 20 yrs without a ticket.
